Students for Liberty
By: John Russell

“The cause of liberty is often under appreciated on college campuses today. Those students who enter college with a belief in liberty often lose sight of that belief because of the overwhelming presence of alternative ideologies. Many students give up because they believe they are alone. When students with a common belief in liberty do manage to come together, they are left with few resources or networks of support to develop their organization. The problem is significant, but the solution is simple. There is a need for students from around the country to come together to meet others interested in liberty and learn how to promote liberty, taking that experience and knowledge back to each one’s college to challenge the mainstream today.”

The College Libertarians of UNR are committed to the cause of liberty, and attended this conference to learn how to further these ideals into the marketplace of ideas on our campus. We are extremely excited to begin applying what we have learned to our campus and community, for the fight for freedom is never-ending.
We would like to give special thanks to ASUN and Robert Burr for making this opportunity a reality.

Conspiracy Night – Details
By: John Russell

I welcome everyone to participate or just come and listen in on “Conspiracy Night”, where we will be discussing some “political conspiracy theories”. To get the debate started, we will be watching an episode from Penn & Teller BullSh*t where they discuss the Recycling conspiracy. I chose this one since this is one since most people are pretty unaware of the scandal. Unfortunately, they use a lot of crappy language to get the point across, but in its own way it is effective. After this, I hope to shed some light in the global warming debate, and I encourage everyone to begin thinking about not so much the science, but instead the political motivation, why it has become so political, who has to gain and who has to lose from it, and finally asking yourself it promotes or hinders liberty.
Hope to see you there!

Conspiracy Night
By: John Russell

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, February 28 at 6:00PM where we are going to try and tackle some of the most misleading political “conspiracy theories” around! Please, we encourage everyone to bring in a conspiracy theory or some type of politically charged legislation that they have questions about. Or, if you are sick of the fact that so many people believe something, and you think it is wrong, please bring it up! Everyone is welcome to participate in the discussion!

Supporting Gov. Gibbons’ Budget “Cut”
By: John Russell

I know this is old… but I found some of the footage taken by The Voice Box when the College Libertarians supported Gov. Gibbons’ fiscal conservancy and responsible spending on his budget “cut” plan a few months ago.

Here is the Sagebrush article that mentions us as well -> http://nevadasagebrush.com/blog/2007/12/11/unr-prepares-for-cuts/

Joyce Foundation Debate
By: John Russell

The debate was interesting and I think it went really well. There was a big turn out from the school too. The final question in the debate was “Who is going to be the next president of the United States?” Let’s tune in and see what the experts have to say, courtesy of my cellphone camera :/
