Top Ten Reasons Gay Marriage Should Be Illegal
By: Barry Belmont

I found this over at StopGeek and I gotta say it’s pretty convincing…

Top Ten Reasons to Make Gay Marriage Illegal

1.) Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

2.) Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

3.) Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

4.) Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all like many of the principles on which this great country was founded; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

5.) Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of marriages like Britney Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6.) Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.

7.) Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

8.) Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.

9.) Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.

10.) Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

    Sorry that this has to be spelled out for you…but the above article was clearly a satire directed at those who actually think gay marriage should be banned.

    Had you done anything beyond reading the title, you would have realized that. In fact, had you looked anywhere on this site, you would have seen that we have nothing but empathy for the gay rights movement and wish the State would get out of all kinds of affairs it doesn’t belong in (marriage being an excellent example). But unfortunately you’re about as quick to judge as the worst among them. It’s called prejudice for a reason…

    Hi Ken,
    Perhaps you may find my recent essay attached; interesting. In my Discussion post replies, (Cas 255, call # 38945, Kenneth Smith, Instructor; Week one Discussion post ) I expressed my thoughts and opinions, as did Makinna. The difference may be that I quoted the Bible and expressed how faith in Jesus Christ is my own program of recovery from AOD; and I attempted to explain to Makinna the differences in spirituality within AA and NA. It appears that some opinions are acceptable to you and……well; some are not. Even though all replies are on context you chose to delete mine that referred to Jesus Christ and contained a couple of Bible quotes. In my opinion, your actions have violated my 1st Amendment rights and my UNR Student Bill of Rights concerning the right of free expression within the UNR course material.

    My suggestion is to kindly review the information and compare that with the discussion post instructions and with the UNR Student Bill of Rights, along with the First Amendment of the US constitution.

    Your Post Instructions;
    “Talk to people about their thoughts about the problem of alcohol and drug abuse and their viewpoints of prevention. Share some of your findings from your discussions with others on the discussion board.”
    Note: “Report about what they say about their viewpoints, not your own. Since prevention planning can involve talking to people about their viewpoints, it is important that we listen to them rather than give our own viewpoints and opinions.”
    Topic Type: Threaded
    Graded: Yes (Numeric out of 10.0)
    Peer Review: No
    Posting Restrictions: Allow post and **reply** (Emphasis mine)
    User Identification: User Name

    While you have totally deleted my and Makinna’s ( and one other student’s reply to me) entire initial post replies, you have chosen to let the following replies from other students remain….which do express their own opinions;

    I’m the opposite of religious in most ways, but I completely agree about the importance of parental involvement in preventing substance abuse. Good point. :)

    I think both these views are quite relevant, and neither view is necessarily wrong because some users do stem from a not-so-great upbringing, and some simply look for a way to push their problems aside and tell themselves they will deal with it later. Interesting points.

    I disagree with your last source of information, because I come from one of those families that is genetically disposed to alcohol. Although it’s been a lifetime battle for me I have been able to stay sober. I believe it comes from the heart if you really want it and you’re tired of being being sick and tired then you can have a quality life.

    i agree with the second person you interviewed. Everything is not bad in moderation, its when we take moderation a step further, that’s when it starts to become a problem.

    *End of Student Opinions*

    Hopefully this matter can be resolved in the spirit and truth of our US 1st Amendment rights, and that of the UNR Student Bill of Rights in conjunction with your own Course Week One instructions.

    God Bless!

    #7? doesn’t even make sense. duh. okay, obviously not. The kids have to start out somewhere, and unless you know for a fact that these gay parents produced asexually, theres no way this could be true. think about it.
